South-Central Kentucky Coalition on Homelessness
Purpose

The South-Central Kentucky Coalition On Homelessness will work to connect, to coordinate, and to resource our community’s efforts to identify and eliminate those conditions that inhibit/ prevent persons and families from access to safe, decent, affordable, and permanent housing.

Scope of Activities

Bowling Green is fortunate to have a number of institutions, agencies, non-profit organizations, and communities of faith actively engaged in efforts to prevent homelessness, to provide supportive human services to homeless persons and families, and to assist persons and families transition from homelessness into safe, decent, affordable, and permanent housing. These efforts are making a real difference in the lives of people.  Presently, there is no nexus point within the community where these various groups can interface in ways that enhance the community’s overall effectiveness in addressing homelessness.

The South-Central Kentucky Coalition On Homelessness (hereafter “the Coalition”) will undertake to improve this situation through three primary areas of activity:

Connect groups providing housing related services to persons and families in order to help them make better referrals.

Coordinate the overall effort of the community’s human service bodies to reduce or eliminate homelessness in Bowling Green/10 County area.

Resource groups working with homeless persons and families, providing information, experiences, and relationships that will help them succeed with their unique vision for serving the community and provide opportunities to partner with like-minded groups to undertake larger projects.

It was agreed the name of the Coalition should accurately reflect the scope of the Barren River Service Area/Barren River Developmental District, which consists of a 10-county region encompassing the following counties: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren. The Southern Kentucky Re-Entry Council, Community Action of Southern Kentucky, LifeSkills, and other community partners provide services throughout the BRADD region.
